*English translation below

ASO(App Store Optimization)

My Thoughts About ASO

I am Matsuyama, a Creative Director at AMATA K.K.
As Cho-goro wrote, I’m one of the employees that was appointed as a blog writer out of the blue.
I was at a loss as to what I should write, and unlike Cho-goro, I’m not part of the gag group
, so I thought I’d just write on a serious topic.

A little while back, I attended the “‘App DL Rate Elevation’ ASO (App Store Optimization) Strategy Seminar” organized by Repro Inc.

ASO refers to app store optimization.
Looking at the App Store, Google Play, etc…, it is plain to see
that there are a ton of smart phone apps out there in the world.

With that being said, AMATA is also releasing a lot of apps, with our in-house releases and commissioned development,  and having our apps seen by as many people as possible makes everyone involved happy. That’s why we’re studying this kind of thing.

What does ASO do?
Specifically, when you bring an app to the App Store or Google Play, it involves things like choosing more suitable keywords for the related keyword column, and preparing easy to understand icons and descriptive images so that your app will actually be downloaded.
The former is similar to Web SEO, but the latter is unique. (It’s an element similar to CRO.)

Apple has also published a page in the past stating that “downloads from searches account for at most 65% of downloads.”
Even on the store page before downloading, it’s necessary to ensure that the contents of an app are communicated effectively.

It’s important to communicate the content with the first view, and with that in mind, here is the store screenshot of our game, “Cavity Kanojo.”
On the above is the screenshot from
iOS, and GooglePlay is on the under.

Elements that draw the eye are the icon and reviews for iOS, and for GooglePlay the header image and description look important…right?

Of course, there are also underhanded ways of manipulating store search results, so the search logic of Apple and Google is changing daily.
I also think they are updating the conditions for rejection on a daily basis.
For example, although it is an outdated technique now developers used to do things like put  lots of irrelevant words at the end of an app description solely to raise search rankings… Ranking manipulation stunts used to be famous. Because starting in iOS11 there isn’t a ranking tab on the store anymore,
it’s said that these kinds of things have become extremely ineffective.

It seems that to make it to the top of the search rankings, post-download usage rate is also related.
It feels like the app marketplace is becoming an environment where apps really have to be good to survive.

AMATA is giving it our all to develop good apps and operate them well.
