*English translation below

【GDC Report⑦】 ~All’s well that ends well~

Hey Team!
This is AP, the mysterious foreigner chosen to be a member of this year’s GDC!

“Please treat the pass as if it were cash.”
“If you lose your pass , it costs the same price as the original to reissue it.”
Before leaving, we were harshly warned by GDC regular member ‘A.’

Nevertheless! I did it! I managed to lose my participation pass at the end of my first day!

I was in a tight spot…I immediately looked around the venue for it, and apparently I looked like a shady individual because I was grilled by a security guard (lol).
After I told him my situation, he offered me to help looking for the pass! he was very nice…

After going round and round looking for it, the guard received info from one of his colleagues that a participation pass had been found and delivered to customer service! But it was already 6:00 PM, and customer service was closed…I’d have to get it the next day…still, at least now I can sleep soundly…yeah, right, as if…if I talk to the other members, they’ll be pissed, scold and threaten me, there’s no way I can sleep…

And so, I somehow rose to face the next day…knowing that if I go to customer service, my pass will have arrived…if I go it should be there! I believe!

But I was splendidly betrayed…I asked at customer service and they said they’d check…and I waited with the relief of absolute certainty that they had it, but no way! The pass wasn’t there! But the security guard guy yesterday said it had arrived there!
It was a lie…they recommended that for the time being I enquire with Lost and Found…which was far, in a separate building…well, I have to go, so…and when I got there, Tada! The answer: “we haven’t received it here.” Yep. Checkmate.

I decided to believe the security guard from yesterday, and try at customer service one more time…this time, together with the master of negotiation, ‘A.’ And then, when ‘A’ doggedly cornered the customer service worker with a stream of perfect English, the latter said that he would check again! What? But you checked before, right? Right? Don’t tell me…you…didn’t check before…did you?
Then, a different person came, who said that they have received lots of dropped passes from yesterday! What?!? What about the guy who just said they hadn’t received anything? Seriously? While I was confused, miraculously, I was able to have them reissue a pass (for free)!

I don’t know whether it had arrived but hadn’t been confirmed, or they were trying to sell me another pass, or it hadn’t actually arrived but they reissued another one because I was so insistent, but anyway, all that matters is that I was able to safely return. The matter can be concluded without a scolding! (I was scolded, though, actually) I learned a valuable lesson…about life…

Everyone! Not only at GDC, but when participating in other events as well, be careful not to misplace your pass…and ideally, not just your pass, but be careful not to misplace anything!
Also, its a good idea not to be taken by the half-hearted support of customer service or others, and ask for the name of the person in charge…or so they said online (lol)

PS.
After returning to Japan, my coworker ‘T’ lost his wallet! (I heard it was safely recovered)
Anyway, until we really head home, it is GDC! Unpreparedness is one’s greatest enemy…
