*English translation below
http://events.unity3d.jp/unitetokyo2018/index.html
【Unity 2D

【UniteTokyo 2018 Series 5】Headed to Unite Tokyo 2018
Hello I’m S, designer at AMATA.
I attended Unite Tokyo 2018, which ran from May 7th until the 9th.
http://events.unity3d.jp/unitetokyo2018/index.html
It was held at the Tokyo International Forum, right in front of Yurakucho Station. It felt like there was about a thousand people crammed into the venue itself.
As soon as it started, I opened my paper notepad right away, but everyone else around me casually took out their laptops and started typing away as they took notes. I took in the vibe and after about 10 minutes I figured I should use the notepad on my smartphone.
When you use paper you have to look down the whole time without being able to look ahead while you write, so a laptop is actually perfect for taking notes without looking!
So, here are some of the main points I picked up on from the lectures I attended:
・Everything about the Unity 2D feature update
・“2018’s 100 Assets to Watch” as presented by Virtual Youtuber Cyber Girl Shiro
・Guided Missile Master
There’s a lot to check out so I’ll post the official website with the lecture video for everyone to see!
[Unity 2D Feature Update and Related Functions]
The lectures at Unity 2018 were really easy to understand while working hands-on in order to get to know the new built-in 2D features and all of the different functions that go with them.
The two lecturers were very friendly and gave interesting talks. There were also some astonishing new features that can help expedite your work while making games. So, even beginners could start up their work on Unity and get going right away.
The lecture video hasn’t been put up yet, but here is the URL for the lecture slide. When the video does go up, be sure to check it out.

[“2018’s 100 Assets to Watch” as presented by Virtual Youtuber Cyber Girl Shiro]
This is a list of 100 assets by the virtual YouTuber Shiro-chan.
Even though I was sitting in the venue, watching Shiro-chan talk for 50 minutes on made me feel like I was right at home watching YouTube, which was pretty amazing.
There were 100 assets all together but each and every one looked amazing and worth using. Anyone tinkering around with Unity or developing games should give it a look.
The video is already up and ready to go on YouTube of course, which you can find below.

[Guided Missile Master]
This lecture was geared toward engineers and outlined a mechanism that locks onto a target and pursues it without stopping until a missile hits the designated target.
The explanations given been by the lecturers were very easy to follow! You could watch a variety of missiles pursue their target and make different directional adjustments to get the right angle. It was very cool to see.
The talk still touches upon some mathematical formulas and physics, but it should still be really interesting even if you’re not an engineer.
This video isn’t up yet either, but here is a URL for the lecture slides:

There were plenty of other interesting lectures too, so be sure to take a look and see if you find anything that piques your interest!
For anyone heading to Unite next year, I’m sure the venue will be extremely crowded (you can queue up at the entrance), so I would suggest looking into getting food from somewhere nearby, since the cafe and snack area will likely have long lines in no time and the eating areas will be completely crammed as well.
Also, Room 4 (Hall D) has only about 1/3 the seats of what you find in the other halls, so you’ll have to stand if you don’t get there at least 30 minutes before the lecture starts. Standing and watching the whole time can be kind of brutal.
Room 5 is only about the size of a small conference room, so it’s completely up to chance on whether you’ll get in or not. It’s extremely confined, so you may not get in even if you line up beforehand!
